How Abundance fits into your broader financial portfolio plan

Abundance offers investment opportunities that are designed to help you meet your financial goals alongside your savings and other investments. We offer a variety of short and long term (up to 25 years) projects, and let you support businesses across different life stages, which offer you different levels of risk to meet your personal financial goals.

  • Construction — helps directly fund the building of new green energy capacity and affordable housing, with a wide variety of returns and investment structures.
  • Development — investments are usually short term with a higher rate of return. You can help fund businesses as they demonstrate a technology or set out to achieve planning on a site, hence development investments are considered to have a higher level of risk than others on our platform.
  • Business Growth — these investments help support a range of established companies needing extra funding to get to the next stage.
  • Operational — usually long term investments that offer regular returns from established projects, such as green energy, through the generation (and sale) of power. These investments are typically long term and offer a useful tool in growing a stable long term portfolio.

With Abundance projects across these lifestages it is easy to differentiate your portfolio, managing investment terms, returns and risks. But we do more than help manage the financial side of your portfolio, we want to offer investment opportunities with a long lasting positive impact. Since the UK Government has declared a climate emergency and is on the journey to transition to Net Zero by 2050, investing in good things that really matter is important early on. Hence, we offer investments across three sectors which are all focussed on making the future a little brighter for us all.

  • Green energy — renewable energy was our first sector in established industries such as wind and solar. We moved into funding innovative developments in tidal and hydro, so our investors get access to the full breadth of technologies to not only diversify their portfolio but lead the way to a greener economy.
  • Housing — these investments are offered by housing developers who want to broaden access to quality social and affordable housing using funding models that don’t rely on rising prices. As the UK has a huge affordable housing problem, we want to make a difference, where our investors can help support such projects while making sustainable returns rather than contributing to the growing property nightmare.
  • Transition — helps to fund technologies and business with a focus on achieving the circular economy future and transition to Net Zero economy. These investments help us lower our environmental impact while we continue to work towards the best possible solutions to complicated problems in energy efficiency, storage and waste.

By helping to fund investments on Abundance, you put your money to work towards a greener and more sustainable future, helping support businesses as we transition to Net Zero, while making good money. This video tutorial will show you how you can make your first investment if you haven’t done so.

Building your Abundance portfolio

As with all investments, it is sensible to build a balanced portfolio with Abundance based on your personal financial needs and preferences. A key feature of our investments is that many offer regular cash returns, which provide you with six monthly interest payments which you can reinvest into other projects or withdraw to your bank account. We offer a calculator feature to help you organise your finances and understand the expected returns the investment can bring to your wider portfolio. You can also learn more about how to manage your portfolio risk on Abundance in this detailed blog.

We also offer a marketplace where other investors list investments for sale. This way, if you wish to you can invest your money across different projects to diversify your portfolio; it also offers you a way to sell all (or part) of your investments if you are in need of cash, but getting the initial value back is not guaranteed. More information on how to browse and bid on the Abundance marketplace can be found in this tutorial.

Choosing an investment on Abundance should be your personal decision and should you wish to do so we always suggest our customers to seek a professional opinion if there is a need for advice on any particular investment.
